Back to Vincent

Image
I went back. Finally. Back to place where (I believe) my best version emerges: the art museum. I was back - in particular - at the glorious Van Gogh museum. I am pretty sure I was one of the first citizens to be back! It was empty-sh which I loved. It felt more art gallery and less touristic stop. The tourists are not yet back. Also, COVID rules apply: the visit requires a previous booking. I walked in silence: I reconnected with the place. In the new section with unknown stories, I discovered that Van Gogh’s sister in law —and there is no Vincent Van Gogh’s global story without this woman, let’s just remember—lived in the same street where we live. The joy of small and yet magical coincidences!

Happy Sunday

Image
When the weather is good —which is most often not the case —the city feels like a big birthday party. We had lunch in front of a canal and walked home. Happy days.

The hours

Image
This is how I spend some time of my day. Reading, writing, thinking, coffee drinking, watch Amsterdam. Writing in colors. I am weaving this i into my work routine. Less social media. Less headlines. Less “right here, right now” and more reflections and annotations. More purpose. More peace.

Walk #9 Green beard giant

Image
The building has grown a beard, just like many men in corona times. It is a way to say, leave me alone! Underneath the building hosts a jazz-themed bookshop. Only cash and debit card payments. It seeks small posters and old books, mostly in Dutch. It is a beautiful reminder of a world before digitalization. The green beard and the plants seem to be there to protect the shop and Jazz from modernization, pollution and noise.

Walk # 8 Bridge over untroubled waters

Image
The Dutch are wizards of water. Imaginative. On a random walk, yesterday, I found this bridge over untroubled waters. What made them so good at this? Perhaps the sense that they were vulnerable and they needed to understand how to make water their friend.

Walk#7 Green arms

Image
I have been reading “Don Quijote de la Mancha” and this giant tree with its big arms made me think of the moment when Don Quijote looks at the wind mills and believes it is gian men with big arms. The more I spent time with books and going for walks, the more peaceful I feel.

Walk 6: Nature baths work

Image
Trees makes me humble, flowers curious, birds grateful. We spent one hour in this natural bath and by the evening I could see the effect it had on my reading and writing: patience, attention and humor.
